The
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Olabisi Onabanjo
University, has recently embarked on an indefinite strike due to the
non-payment of salary subvention by the Ogun State government.
The effect
of this strike is very devastating to the students. All academic
activities have been put on hold. In fact, all ongoing examinations have
been suspended until further notice. The students appear to be helpless
as a result of this industrial action, and they have equally frowned at
this development. Unfortunately, this seems to contradict to what we
are being taught in class that the government owes the society the duty
to make them happy.
Since the
harmful effect of strike actions cannot be quantified, the Ogun State
government, particularly Governor Ibikunle Amosun, should, therefore,
listen to our cry and the cry of our lecturers. It is even beyond the
lecturers’ sake this time round; it is more about the students and their
future.
The
students of OOU have implored the governor and their lecturers to kindly
meet so as to settle the crises as soon as possible.
