Police declare eight wanted over Rivers’ killings

Rivers State police command yesterday said declared eight people wanted in the killings in Mgbuoshimini community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Gunmen had stormed the community in the wee hours of Monday and killed some 14 people, including Chief Minikwu Chukwu and Cletus Barigbinee, who were killed at Mgbuoshimini community in Rumueme.Spokesman of the police command, Nnamdi Omoni, yesterday listed the wanted person as Daddy Chukwu (27) from Mgbuoshimini community, Obio/Akpor LGA; Alhaji Otums Monday (23) from Andoni LGA and Nyeson Nwodinka (19) from Obio/Akpor LGA.Others include Orji Amadi (25) from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA; David Chibula Orji (22) from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA; Veejee Orji (19) from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA and Junior Amadi (19) from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA.Omoni explained that they were involved in the murder of some innocent residents of the area during the shooting, and called on any person with useful information on the whereabouts of the wanted persons to contact the nearest police station.Meanwhile, wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Nyesom-Wike, yesterday stressed the need for regular engagement of youths in a bid to make them more productive citizens.She regretted that most adults were not leading lives worthy of emulation by youths, adding that investments in the education of youths will empower them to contribute to societal development.Justice Nyesom-Wike, who spoke at a workshop organised by Chevening Scholarship and British Council in Port Harcourt, advised that youth empowerment would transform the country.She said: “I have a lot of faith in our youth. We are talking of transforming Nigeria; that is the way we should go. My hope is that we should reach out to younger people, especially those who are in school.x
