For the first time in five year, players will know their ratings, as the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) releases the rankings this week.
President of BFN, Francis Orbih, who disclosed this yesterday, stated that the Technical Committee of the BFN used the national competitions, which took place in Katsina and Lagos recently to compute points for each player and see where they stand after the exercise.
“The Technical committee is expected to release the ranking of players this week. The standard of the tournaments that will used to rate the players was very high and I want to assure them (the players) that we as a board will continue to engage them with different competitions,” he noted.
The BFN president expressed satisfaction over of the maiden edition of the Katsina Golden Star National Badminton Championship, the first national badminton tournament in over four years, while noting that the one that took place in Lagos last week is a testament to the desire of the BFN to revive national competitions in the country.
He commended all the stakeholders for making the two tournament possible and praised Mutual Benefit Assurance PLC for bankrolling the tournament in Lagos. He also assured all the players of more events as he hopes to bring back Nigeria to her position of dominance In Africa.
“I call on everyone to share in the BFN’s new vision of repositioning the game for sustainable growth in Nigeria. Together we will all strive to bring Nigeria back to her position of dominance in Africa,” Orbih added.
