Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo has declared his readiness to fight for a spot in the team ahead of 2018 World Cup in June.
The Changchun Yatai striker is seen as one of the sure berths to make the final 23-man squad but the former Lyn Oslo star is not taking anything for granted.
“Everyone in the team is competition for me,” Ighalo revealed during a live studio interview with supersport. “I have to fight for my place in the team because I cannot go to sleep and say my place is secured in the team.”
Ighalo then spoke the squad depth of Gernot Rohr’s men, who were drawn in Group B alongside Argentina, Iceland and Croatia.
“Against Argentina, I was not there and the coach played Kelechi (Iheanacho) and (Alex) Iwobi in attack and they performed. So, I need to fight for my place in the team,” he added.
Nigeria will play their first game against Croatia on June 16 at the Kaliningrad stadium before facing debutants Iceland on June 22 at the Volgograd and wrap the group up with a match against Argentina on June 26 at the beautiful Saint Petersburg stadium.
