Omoni Oboli’s ‘Wives On Strike’ emerged ‘Feature Film Of The Year’ at the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards (HomeVida) held on December 3, 2017, at the Renaissance Hotel, beating ‘Politics and Money’ by Michael Nwankwo.
The award is created to celebrate and reward filmmakers that promote integrity values through film.
“All we do is win, isn’t our God just awesome?” wrote the actress/producer on Instagram.
“A lot of my awards got burnt in the fire and God is steady replacing them! ‘Wives On Strike’ emerged winner at the @homevidaawards which celebrates and rewards filmmakers that promote integrity values through film. Ending this year with a bang”.
Two categories of the award – Feature Film and Documentary – were endowed by USAID/SACE under the theme Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance (TAGG), with winners for each category going home with one million naira.
According to reports ‘Wives on Strike,’ which debuted in April last year, grossed over N15million in 15 days. ‘Wives on Strike’ follows the story of a group of market women who decided to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father. The women hilariously interpreted their roles, setting a series of funny events in motion.
The producer is still working on the cinema run of the ‘Wives On Strike, The Revolution’, schedule for December 29th, 2017.
The sequel follows up on this story and chronicles the women’s fight against domestic violence, after one of them was beaten to death by her husband. This leads to yet another strike by the women against their husbands, forcing their hands to stand up for what is right.
