Despite losing star striker Harry Kane to an ankle injury, Tottenham Hotspur came from a goal down to beat Bournemouth 4-1 in the Premier League at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
It was a much needed win for Spurs following their disappointing elimination in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League to Juventus last Wednesday.
And in the second half, a brace from Heung-Min Son and a goal from Serge Aurier secured the impressive win for Spurs.Bournemouth got off to a great start through Junior Stanislas but Dele Alli drew Spurs level with 10 minutes left in the first half.
The win was a big boost to Spurs’ top four ambitions as they usurped Liverpool to third position on 61 points in the league table.
They have now gone 12 straight league games without defeat (nine wins, three draws).
Bournemouth had the game’s first big chance in the fifth minute but Junior Stanislas’ dink over Hugo Lloris off Lys Mousset squared pass came off the bar.
Stanislas made amends for his earlier miss as he gave Bournemouth the lead in the seventh minute as he volleyed past Lloris inside the box after Adam Smith went past Danny Rose.
In the 29th minute, Spurs thought they had equalised after Kane had the ball inside the net from Christian Eriksen’s cross but the flag went up for offside.
Spurs were forced into a change on 34 minutes as Kane went off with an ankle injury and was replaced by Erik Lamela.
In the 35th minute, Spurs were back on level terms thanks to Alli who finished off Aurier’s inche-perfect cross.
Two minutes into the second half, Bournemouth had the first chance but Lloris saved Simon Francis’ 20 yards strike.
Despite the positive start to the second half by Bournemouth, Spurs went 2-1 up in the 62nd minute after Son turned in Alli’s cross.
Bournemouth went in search of the equaliser and went close on 74 minutes through Francis who smashed over a low cross at the back post.
In the 84th minute, Callum Wilson had the ball at the back of the net only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul on Davinson Sanchez.
Spurs went 3-1 up on 88 minutes as Son was sent through on goal from the half way line, rounded Asmir Begovic before slotting the ball into the net.
And in the 90th minute, Aurier scored to make it 4-1 as he headed into an empty net after Kevin Trippier’s cross was tipped towards him by Begovic
