Father, 55, remanded for defiling 17-year-old daughter

An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 55-year-old man, Adeyanju Basiri, in custody for allegedly defiling his daughter.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the police prosecutor, Sergeant Monica Ikebulo, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 11 on Irona Street, Ado-Ekiti.

She said the accused and one herbalist, now at large, attempted to use the 17-year-old girl for money ritual.

She said the accused confessed that he defiled the girl nine times.

“Basiri confessed that he always use a white handkerchief given to him by the herbalist to clean his daughter’s private parts after having intercourse with her,” she added.

Ikebulo said the offence contravened Section 31(2) of the Child’s Right Law, adding that she had duplicated and sent the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The plea of the accused was not taken, as his counsel, Mr. Simeon Ojo, sought an adjournment pending the issuance of the legal advice.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Dolapo Akosile, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till October 12, 2017.
